Jackie Logsted, an LA-based screenwriter and director, has launched pre-production on her latest proof of concept short film. DEAD GIRLS follows a lonely young woman who becomes dangerously obsessed with a dystopian reality show where viewers can place bets on which missing women they think have the best chance of being found alive. She contemplates faking her own disappearance in a desperate attempt to be as loved as the missing white girls on TV. It’s GONE GIRL meets THE HUNGER GAMES.
The mission of Dead Girls is to disrupt the way we interact with the tragedies of both white women and women of color, and illuminate the discrepancies between the two. The Dead Girls team believes that by making a film like Dead Girls, audiences will question their own preconceived biases.
The project already has some amazing people involved, including Cassidy Campbell, a producer whose last short was featured at Tribeca, Sabrina Lassegue, the CEO of Extinguished Youth Productions, an LA-based production company with a mission to tell creative and innovative stories while implementing diversity on all sides of the camera, and two outstanding lead actresses Annalisa Cochrane (“One of Us is Lying”, “Cobra Kai”, “The Good Doctor”, “Queen Sugar”) and Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut (“Star Trek: Picard”, “Chicago Med”, “Cruel Summer”, “Homeland”). As for Jackie Logsted, she's been a working screenwriter for 3 years in the thriller space with 3 feature films produced, and her last film went #1 on Tubi.
The project is 50% funded, and the team is crowdfunding to finance the remainder of the budget. Check out their page HERE to learn more about the project.
