Assistant Highlights: May 2024

By Regan Lavin, TV Lit Assistant, UTA & our new Artistic Curator!

Happy spring! Welcome to our newest THA section—assistant highlights. In each monthly newsletter, we’ll now be including a list of a few different projects that you are all working on to celebrate and acknowledge all your artistic pursuits! I’m Regan, our new Artistic Curator, and I’ll be putting together this list each month. Projects include (but are not limited to) short films, scripts, plays, creative salons, stand-up shows, podcasts, band performances, improv, EP drops, and more! Have a project you want to have highlighted? Submit HERE!

Ongoing: "Mabel Miller: Female Serial Killer"

"Mabel Miller: Female Serial Killer” is a dark comedy mockumentary Rachel made while a junior at NYU Tisch, filmed only days before the pandemic. When she landed a job as the assistant to Scott Dikkers, founder of the Onion, after graduation, she learned so much more about comedy, what is commercially funny, and different forms of media. With this new perspective, she decided to return to this project and adapt it as a podcast with the knowledge and skills gained since creating the film. Over the past year, she’s been writing this ridiculous, funny, and bloody narrative dark comedy in between work hours, and is currently pitching the project (renamed “Myrtle Miller: Female Serial Killer”) to podcast companies.

Logline: A serial killer from the 1920's life is chronicled, while she is remembered as the feminist icon she is not, was not, and never should be.

Logline for Podcast Adaptation, "Myrtle Miller: Female Serial Killer": An eccentric women’s studies professor unearths a shocking family connection to her feminist icon, the 1920s era serial killer Myrtle Miller while making a podcast celebrating her crimes, leading her to take on the grisly family mantle as a self-proclaimed (anti)heroine.

Upcoming, NYC: The Aurelians Collective's "Celestial Bodies." Friday, May 10th

On Friday, May 10th, THA co-Editor-in-Chief Natalie Lifson is co-producing and writing a comedy sketch for The Aurelians Collective's upcoming salon, "Celestial Bodies," at DOM in Manhattan.

“Celestial Bodies" is an immersive artistic nightlife experience inspired by the Parisian salons of the 1920s, with a twist - it’s outer space themed. The show will feature a spellbinding lineup of theatre, breathtaking vocal performances, soul-stirring instrumentalists, contemporary dance, powerful poetry, and stunning visual art installations. The Aurelians Collective is a NYC-based arts collective dedicated to uplifting young women and artists from marginalized communities.

The Aurelians reserved a limited number of comp tickets for Hollywood Assistant subscribers. Reserve your ticket HERE.

Natalie has been the Director of Community and Organizational Growth for the Aurelians for the past year. Before becoming an Executive Assistant and Agent Trainee at Buchwald, she was a Broadway Executive Assistant at Jana Robbins Productions. Although she doesn’t regret leaving theater for Film & TV, she loves having a foot in the door in the part of theater that’s always made it magical to her - the community, the unrestrained creativity, and the idealistic notion that art can make the world a better place. Rachel Rose Keller is also writing a satirical piece for “Celestial Bodies.”

THA’s Artistic Curator Regan Lavin is also a member of The Aurelians Collective, and currently has a short film in development with them. She currently works as a TV lit assistant at United Talent Agency. Regan also comes from a theatre background and engages in artistry through acting and writing.
