Introducing... THA's New Journalism Team!

The Hollywood Assistant is taking "by assistants, for assistants" to the next level with our new journalism team, in which contributors will report on industry happenings in a way that's most relevant to our readers. Our reporters will cover industry events, write about new trends, interview execs, and everything in-between. We’re kicking off this month with an article by Matthew Threadgill about this season’s Upfronts and NewFronts, with commentary from an executive on Roku’s ad sales team.

Meet the team:

Digital Operations at Nickelodeon

Matthew Threadgill is a burgeoning entertainment professional aspiring to work in TV/film development. While pursuing a degree in theatre at Northwestern University, Matthew developed his love for storytelling through playwriting classes. His journey into the film industry commenced with internships at companies such as Untitled Entertainment, Model Management Group, and Crossroads Theatre Company. In 2022, Matthew secured his first full-time position as an assistant at Independent Artist Group. His affinity for kids and family storytelling led him to Nickelodeon in 2023, where he serves as Department Coordinator & Executive Assistant in the Digital Operations department. Eager to broaden his network and understanding of the industry, Matthew sees each day as an assistant as an exciting opportunity to soak up knowledge and set a strong foundation for his career ahead.

Film Sales at Fortitude International

Greta Simolke works as a Film Sales Coordinator at Fortitude International. She's all about storytelling—whether she's scribbling ideas on paper, performing on stage, or hustling behind the scenes. Fresh out of college in 2023, she made a bold move from Louisiana to Los Angeles without ever setting foot in California before. When she's not working, you'll find her at the movies, strolling in the park, or browsing Zillow for houses she can’t afford (yet). She couldn't be more excited to write for the Hollywood Assistant and connect with other young entertainment professionals.

CBS's Blue Bloods

A New York-based creative writer, editor and avid reader, Melanie Gulbas grew up in the suburbs of Long Island letting her imagination run wild with the tales she read and stories she watched.

She’s especially interested in Victorian literature, period pieces, and TV dramas, hoping to write for a show one day. Inspired by creative storytelling, she currently works in the television industry as a Post Coordinator on CBS’ Blue Bloods. She is a former On-Air News Reporter and current Freelance Features Writer, continuously interested in connecting with community members and sharing their stories.

You can bet to find her with an iced London Fog Tea Latte in hand and her nose buried in a book.. or en route to the gym and the shops afterwards for some retail therapy.
